LTRC addresses the complex problem of understanding and processing natural languages in both speech and text mode.
LTRC conducts research on both basic and applied aspects of language technology. It is the largest academic centre of speech and language technology in South Asia. LTRC carries out its work through four labs, which work in synergy with each other as listed below.

- Won Word Sense Disambiguation contest as part of ACL SemEval 2010, USA
- Won Automatic Summarization, DUC contest organized by NIST, USA two years in a row (2006, 2007).
Tech Transfers
- Led Development of Sampark Machine Translation Systems among 9 Indian languages (in 18 directions)
- Developed Khoj Search Engine. Technology transferred to SETU, an incubated company & Rediff.
