Natural Period of Buildings Constructed on Hill SlopesAuthors: Ramya Gullapalli,Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla Journal: ICI Journal (link) Volume: 19 Volume Number: 04 Pages: 29-38 Date: 2019-01-07 Report no: IIIT/TR/2019/11 AbstractThe construction in hilly is generally constrained by local topography resulting in vertical as well as horizontal irregularities in the buildings. The dynamic properties of such buildings vary significantly when compared to those constructed on the flat terrain. Fundamental Natural Period of a building is one such important dynamic property which has its significant use especially during the design stage of the building. Ambient Vibrations of certain buildings constructed on hill slopes of Mussoorie were recorded to obtain respective natural periods. It has been observed that the existing code provisions for estimating the approximate period of a building are not efficient enough in the case of such buildings. An empirical relation to estimate time period of buildings constructed on slopes was derived by performing regression analysis on the time periods obtained from 270 buildings, modeled based on results derived from ambient vibration test data.
