Behavior of Building with Open Ground Story under Seismic ActionAuthors: Singh Prakash Abhiram,Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla Journal: ICI Journal (link) Volume: July - September 2019 Pages: 27-33 Date: 2019-07-01 Report no: IIIT/TR/2019/111 AbstractThis paper includes effect of complete removal of infill from the bottom story of the building intentionally done for providing parking space for the people. This paper takes action of infill into account based on the diagonal strut action which controls the excessive deflection of the beams and columns. Usually for the lateral analysis of building the effect of infill is neglected in the stiffness calculation by the structural designer for simplicity. But infills have its own stiffness which restricts the deflection of adjoining column. For the present analytical study, a 12 story building with 6x6 bays was taken into consideration with three different cases like, fully infill (infill provided at every story), open ground story and bare frame. The building was analysed by using linear static analysis over ETabs software. Successively, the central 2D frame of same building was analyzed using the pushover nonlinear static method over SAP2000NL software. Based on the obtained results, the behavior of the building with open ground story is critical as compared with fully infill building for the drift and displacement parameter. In case of 2D pushover analysis the capacity as well as stiffness of the building was reduced with removal of infill. Full article: pdf Centre for Earthquake Engineering |
