A case study on dynamic site characterization of Delhi regionAuthors: D Neelima Satyam,K S RAO Conference: International Conference on Performance Based Design in Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering From Case History Practice June 15 to 17 2009 Tsukuba International Congress Center Japan Paper no 115 Date: 2009-09-01 Report no: IIIT/TR/2009/132 AbstractMicrotremor method is the most inexpensive and convenient technique for dynamic site characterization of sedimentary basins. This study was carried out in Delhi NCR at 144 different stations and field measurements were taken using velocity sensors for a period of 1 hr at each station point. The data was analyzed using VIEW 2002 software for the estimation of fundamental resonance frequency. The results of the all 144 stations were divided into four categories (T1, T2, T3, and T4) based on the shape of the H/V spectra, resonance frequency and soil type. Since the detailed (bore hole data) soil profile at all these locations is available, the resonance frequency is compared with sedimentary thickness. It is observed that the resonance frequency is high at ridge areas and very low in places with high sedimentary thickness close to Yamuna. Centre for Earthquake Engineering |
