Recommendations on Reinforcement Detailing for Earthquake Resistant Construction of RC Buildings

Abstract

Earthquake damages are not new to our country. We have witnessed several earthquakes in the past causing innumerable property and life loss. Life loss is due to the collapse of the buildings. In order to understand why a building collapses, we studied several earthquake affected structures. Upon studying these collapsed buildings, we came to conclusion that if we can avoid the common mistakes in ensuring good quality construction, even with current level of knowledge we can contribute greatly to the safety of our buildings. In this paper, we are describing the common mistakes done at the sites of construction and simple solutions to rectify the same. As a case study we have take a site where all the necessary precautions for earthquake resistant design and construction are taken into consideration.
