We often capture images and videos, and share them across friends over a networks. There is an increasing concern about the loss in privacy of such data. We have been looking into the security and privacy of multimedia data, during storage, processing and communication. Many of the multimedia computing schemes are also based on examples, because of the machine learning algorithms in the back end. Privacy is becoming a concern in such situations also.
Since the capture and processing are by two different devices (often on two different location), multimedia communication is critical. Popular Internet protocols are not secure enough. Traditional encryption schemes are not ideally suited for multimedia due to the (i) bulkiness in data (ii) strict standards and practices enforced in multimedia storage and communication. Therefore, investigations in security and privacy of multimedia data involves development of algorithms which specially suits the properties of visual data.
Security is often achieved by significant additional computation. We try to achieve the seemingly contradicting objective of high security with efficient computation. We achieve this for image/video data by exploiting special properties/characteristics of the visual data.
