Remote sensing is the technique of obtaining information about the earth objects through satellite systems that generate pictorial format of the earth surface using the reflected electromagnetic radiation by the earth objects. Number of foreign and Indian sensors provides global data continuously for monitoring and management of earth resources. The remote sensing satellite images provide a detailed account of the earth surface covering wide aerial extents and inaccessible areas, with different spatial, spectral and temporal resolution, thus providing best application for natural resource management and disaster mitigation. Research within remote sensing domain is mainly focused on two aspects: Development of the algorithms related to satellite imagery for the extraction of the features from high to very high resolution and application oriented with respect to forestry, agriculture, wetland and land use using multi-spectral and hyper-spectral satellite imagery.
